THE BOOT & SHOE
INN

REPORT, PHOTO'S, VIDEO CLIPS & ART.

BOOT AND SHOE PUBLIC HOUSE.

The 'Boot and Shoe' public house stands adjacent to Kidwelly's town wall and southern Gatehouse. The
present building was in existence before 1800 and the owner of the 'Boot and Shoe' at the time was a man
called John Thomas. The pub is included in a list of inns licensed by the borough in 1836 when the license
was in the name of Mary Thomas. In 1849 Margaret Thomas was listed as licensee, while from 1891 to
1906 Thomas Gower held the license

Our thanks go to the owners of this wonderful old inn.

Lounge

The name of Thomas Gower was given, a landlord, the years were not clear and we had 1843
or 1960 – 61.
James was also given but not told if a surname or first. He would have ‘instigated’ the inn in the late 1700’s.
A jack Russell dog is seen brown and white with a red collar, his name is Jack.
Jeannette has seen a shadow standing in between Lee and Peter, it could not have been a shadow as no
lights were on, and only the two men were in the room everyone else was standing outside.

Pete’s team - Lounge upstairs.

A lady is here aged 54 she was an alcoholic, her face is ravaged and her hair is so untidy and light in colour.
Her face seems to be a yellow in colour (jaundice possibly), lots of wrinkles. She is being ‘pickled’ She
passed in 1987, and although she did not live here she was well known in the village and frequented all the
pubs, when they stopped serving her because she was inebriated she would move on to the next.  The name
Kathleen is given, she is not grounded, and she visits and is full of regret as she threw her life away. She
died by falling down some concrete steps and broke her neck.
She drank because her mother did, after her father left. It was all she knew.
Lee picks up on a hanging in the cellar (he is still upstairs), a very tall slight man, early 20’s blond cropped
hair. Matthew, committed suicide. 1962.
He did not live here. He had ended a relationship, and he came here because he wouldn't’t be spotted easily.
He broke in to the cellar to kill himself.  He is grounded here, he creates a lot of noise, and beer barrels in
the cellar will knock together. He is showing Lee a reflection in a mirror and Lee thinks someone would
have seen him in a mirror.  Matthew and Sarah were due to get married, she was unfaithful to him with his
best friend. He actually caught them himself. His friend Gareth was to have been his best man.

12.20am Bedroom

A boy aged 8/9 lots of curly very bushy brown hair, name sounded like Thomas, 1943 is given and
meningitis. He is holding a fishing rod. He is doing chores mopping floors etc; in the pub in return he gets
food and pop. He was happy with that it was treat for him. He would do his chores and then go off fishing.
He is wearing rolled up trousers no socks, suede type shoes, shirt white with blue squares on it. And a navy
blue tank top. He is not grounded, he just has fond memories of this place and returns to re-enact happy
times. He never lived here just helped out.
There is a cat also, Susie, mainly black with white paws and neck, wearing a green collar.

Small Bedroom.

Lee can see Susie the cat again, she passed in 2003 / 2004, she was run over. But still sleeps in all of the
rooms. Jack the dog ate slug pellets and passed by being poisoned. He was 3 years old and would have
passed about 27 years ago.  Lee can also hear lots of muffled talking but nothing distinctive can be heard.
Who ever was in this room has followed the other group out, Lee feels it was a lady and possibly either
connected to Kerry or has an affinity to her as she reminds her of her Granddaughter. He feels this lady is
puzzled as to what we are doing here tonight. This lovely lady would be in her 70’s. Lee is still being shown
Kerry so this means the lady is drawn to her.

Tea Break

Helen’s team upstairs.

Small bedroom 12 midnight. Temp; 20c

Phil feels a male presence, he is aware of us, Jeannette draws a male and we are all very surprised to find
it is the same as one drawn at The Old Cross Saws. This is unusual and Helen wonders if he has followed
her as she was there earlier in the week. This is a distinct possibility, as we find out later that the two
personalities of the spirits were very much the same.

Jeannette has an image of a short round man the name of Percival is given, she is then very dizzy.
A pair of long stocking clad legs appears ending in black satin shorts, feels like a 50’s cabaret outfit.
Phil has someone playing with his right arm. A mist is seen at the bottom of the bed. There is a lot of energy
felt by all but no information forthcoming. Helen picks up on Irish links, and a row between two men over an
object, Jeannette feels it was a medal. The two men are arguing over the find. Jeannette calls out for spirit
… NOTING
Cobwebs are felt on faces so Helen calls out but again nothing.
The name of Jane Morrell, an American feels that the ‘legs’ belong to her. Someone passed with a heart
attack.
Phil places the football on the floor and asks spirit to move it, there is a smell of Lily of the valley, and lights
are seen moving around the ball but were not caught on cam corder, the ball stays motionless and no
information is forthcoming.

Lounge upstairs  12.30am

This room is felt to be icy cold by all the team but is in fact 20c the same as the other rooms.
Helen feels like a torture band around her head but Jeannette says it sounds more like a psychic band and
tells Helen to ask spirit to step back.
Jeannette feels she is on a village green, this building as not here. A young wench is walking towards her
name of Jennie Evans. She is wearing a very very low cut top; her waist is cinched in as if wearing a corset,
and a long green rough material skirt.
She is carrying pitchers of milk from nearby. She is unable to give us the year but tells us she was the
village prostitute. When asked who is on the thrown she says a king.
She does not live within the castle walls; she is married to a man a lot older than herself. , whilst her
husband is away fighting, she earns her food and wood for the fire by prostitution. Her husband encourages
her to do this.  Jeannette feels like the information is conflicting as if someone does not want the story to be
told, the years of 1672 & 1682 are given.
Jeannette feels water must be nearby (confirmed) as she is showing herself collecting water. Jeannette’s
doorkeeper steps in and she says that the fat balding man has now come into the room, not a good thing!
Phil confirms this and stands between the door and Jeannette to block him.
Jennie is happy in her life, but Jeannette can not communicate properly as someone is trying to stop her
talk, so she sounds like a microphone gone wrong!
Jennie says there would have been a lord or nobleman Jeannette is shown a contorted face, the other team
come into the room at this time and a connection to the lord is lost. The male presence (bald man) is still
here and felt by all.
Jeannette’s hand is tapping loudly on the corner of the settee for no reason.
Jennie comes in, she is aware of the bald man, he frightens her but they pass each other. Jennie says she
likes the lord he owns cottages Helen asks if he is the deformed man and Jennie says she likes him his
sexual favours are good!
Phil feels this man trying to pass through him, he is a murderer, Phil thinks the man wants to channel
through him but he is not happy letting him do this so backs him off. The man stalks the building and would
have been seen on the landing. Lee is feeling agitated.
Jennie has now gone.
Jeannette had started to draw but when the light goes on it is a partly drawn face and then scribbled out and
the words STAB and Out written in across it.

Lee has a redheaded man who is shouting “get out” possibly a farmer as again this building is being shown
as a cornfield. He is very aggressive.
Jeannette is drawing. Lee’s man has been tormented by the villagers for something he didn't’t do.  The date
of 1428. Villagers set fire to the barn.
Jeannette hasn’t drawn a portrait, her spirit guides have automatically given names and dates.

Phil is still feeling tingling around his head, the bald man is still with him. Helen feels the man had stabbed
someone so frenzied that he went through bone. A very strong man. Helen calls out to him and is told he
needs no introduction we should know him. He is not interested in our names, he is better than us. Jeannette
is concerned that the man may try and jump into Phil and warns him to be careful. Phil says this man is of
the cloth, Benedictine.  But feels this is incorrect a false persona to make Phil off guard. Phil feels someone
is buried under the building.
Lee and Angela are feeling cold but it is 25c by them the rest of the room is 20c.
Lee is seeing a mist but no features.  Jeannette is being shown the image of the fat controller from Thomas
the tank engine… he is a very intimidating man, and he scares people because “I Can”.

Tea Break.

Lounge bar downstairs.  2.05am (Jeannette, Helen, Kerry, Angela)

Jeannette picks up on residual of lots of men talking in this room. Everyone hears a soft moan.

Phil and Helen hear someone say “are you ready yet” a male voice. Lee and Phil are by the bar area
Lee goes into the room on his own and can hear a tapping noise, he has goose bumps. Jan can also hear the
tapping.
We all join together; Phil and Jeannette have really bad headaches. Jan now has a bad headache.

We go to the cellar behind the bar, Phil is hit in the face by a spirit, there is not a nice feel in here, Phil and
Jeannette are drawn to one wall and Lee to another, as we stand in a group a pair of legs from just the knee
downwards pushes between Phil and Jeannette and is seen only by Jeannette who has such a fright she
screams and leaves the room quite quickly
…don’t blame her!
The cellar would have been bigger and it is felt that tunnels run underneath. There is someone buried there
and Lee feels it could be a Knights Templar. Very negative energies in here.  Angela sees someone (a
shadow) walk by the toilets. Jeannette’s face is touched.
Jeannette sees a someone walk from the bar to the toilets and after we check where all members are it is
confirmed no human has been there, we go to the toilets. Jeannette stands in the space where she saw the
person, she feels someone behind her, Phil believes the man is following Jeannette. Phil opens the ladies
toilet door, something rushes past Phil and Jeannette scaring the wits out of them, it scared everyone in its
pathway.

Phil, Jeannette and Helen rush upstairs as Phil follows whatever it was, as Phil goes into one of the
bedrooms his legs are taken from under him, if he had not grabbed the bed he would have fallen. They
follow the energy into the lounge and then it disappears.
They go back downstairs.

Some of the group are in the bar area others next door in the lounge.

In the bar Lee is relating the tale of a brass shoe that according to the landlord had been thrown by spirit, it
was burning hot by the fireplace although no fire was or had been lit.
Lee calls out for a sign and a thud is heard by both Phil and Lee. A screaming sound is suddenly heard by
everyone in both rooms.

Lounge bar, Jeannette is feeling ‘not right’ very heavy energies here, the landlady says she never likes this
room. Helen calls out and Jeannette tells her to be careful how you call out. Voices are heard in the bar area
“what do you want?” “why?” “Go away” and heavy breathing and a deep sigh are heard.

Glass divination.

The negative spirit comes forward; he is the murderer we picked up earlier. It transpires through Helen's
questions he was a rapist mainly women/young girls but also boys, he killed his victims and buried them
down by the river. One of his victims escaped but he came back to kill him. The man was hung for his crimes.
He enjoys frightening residents and drinkers at the Inn.
He is a reluctant talker so we close for the night.

Phil, Lee and Jeannette go into the other room and ask Guides and Angels of Mercy to remove this spirit
from the premises. After three attempts he is returned to answer his crimes in another world.

Don’t let any of this put you off visiting this wonderful Inn, the owners are very friendly and when we
arrived some of the locals were having a good sing along.
We highly recommend a visit, it is right next door to Kidwelly Castle so you can kill two birds with one stone.
