CAREW CASTLE    5th OCOTBER 2007
We toured the castle as one group just to get the ‘feel’ for it. In St John Perrot wing
Sharie picked up on a little girl running and skipping around, approx; 8 years old wearing
a brown woollen dress. She was having great fun and although she passed at 16 years of
age she was showing us at the time she enjoyed best (aged 8), in her time she would not
have been allowed to do this activity her name is Megan she passed from smallpox. The
daughter of one of the cooks, she speaks Welsh and broken English. Her mam tended the
herb gardens; she was highly regarded as she had the almost unheard of ability to read.
Rhiannon is a name given, a very astute lady.
Jenkins is given as the possible surname.
Phil sees a woman in a white gown wandering back and forth on the upper level (now
non existent). Sharie confirms she saw her earlier also confirmed that she did by Pete and
Helen. The temperature suddenly dips from 13c -9c no reason found for this. Emma picks
up on the name of Anwen and a white horse. Phil picks up on Princess Nest who wanders
throughout also Alis (Alice) who wanders up from the mill. Sharie says “Owain” possibly
Glyndwr
We all move to the chapel where Phil whistles for the Barbary ape that is believed to
haunt the castle. The ape was either killed by castle staff or found dead within the locked
room where his master was also found killed, believed, so the legend goes by the ape. A
story no one will ever be able to confirm, but it was not unusual in these times for exotic
animals to be bought in on the ships and kept as pets.
The name of Satan is used for the ape, where this name comes from we do not know, but
it is one Phil has used before with possible paranormal results.
It is rather surreal sitting in a chapel calling for Satan and the other Mediums reinforce
protection around the group ….. just in case!
There is a man standing by Emma dressed in cloth, with leather shoes, a scuffle/low
rumble is heard by the door, Scilla says she feels an animal by her it is the ape,
temperature is fluctuating but only by ½ degrees. Movement is seen by the window to the
rear. Someone sitting on the bench, Sharie feels it is the lady in white from earlier.
Jeannette calls out, asking who is here, why are they here, no answers but some noises
are heard. Sharie gets the name John and a hearing disability. In the little rooms just off
the chapel a man is in the corner, Phil feels he is negative but unfortunately Jeannette and
Sharie can not sense this at all, they feel he is hard of hearing and drunk. It could be we
are sensing two different people. Michelle and Jeannette sway almost as if they are on
board a ship, Jeannette gets very nauseous and as she is phobic about being sick, gets
out of the rooms and chapel as quick as possible.
All goes quiet so we break for coffee and then split into two teams.
During the break  Emma, Jeannette, Sharie and two ladies go to the rest rooms, One of
the ladies comments on the hope she can receive evidence of spirit and asks if we can go
back to the chapel later on,  as they all walk back under the entrance to the castle the
strong smell of roses stops them in their tracks, it is overpowering, the lady who wanted
the evidence is spell bound, she has a heavy cold and a loss of her sense of smell due to
it, but she can definitely smell the roses, a couple of steps and it changes to marzipan and
then to a strong pipe tobacco. We are amazed and highly delighted at this unexpected
spirit treat.

Phil’s team.

Unfortunately no mention of where they were in the castle.

Phil feels activity walking back and fore, access to go outside to the moat. A lady with us
wearing a white gown also another lady by her side also in a white gown which suggests
they might be in night attire.
Phil sees Satan the ape in the upstairs window leaping across, he then sees Princess Nest
whom he feels is waiting for someone who will not return. Emma feels there is a lady
Anwen here as well, a long dress with hair plaited and is aware of our presence. A chill is
felt by some members of the group. Phil feels a manifestation.
Michelle feels ‘funny’
Emma is aware of being watched from the first floor, a monk, she does not feel he is very
happy with them. Michelle is now feeling queasy. Some of the members stand by the
opening to see if they can feel or sense anything, one lady sees someone crouched down
by the fireplace, feels something tragic happened to them, possibly killed.
Emma says it was an awful death, someone is hiding, she is swaying. Emma gets the name
Jacob and this turns out to be Phil’s guide.
Phil says the ape died in the fireplace, and has been seen screaming in the fireplace by
others. The room feels strange to most of the team. Emma sees a man upstairs and feels
he is related to the ape but not in a nice connection. The name Rhys App. is given to Phil.
Phil says someone was thrown down the stairs made to look like an accident. A man
concerned about his daughter, some sort of fight. Feels the murder was witnessed by a
child. Ape shot by an arrow and then burnt a horrific death.

Kitchen

One member of the team can smell burning, Phil can smell dough, and yet another person
smells honey.  There is a woman here, a cook, and a small boy. Phil wants us to be quiet
to hear the pots and pans but nothing is heard.
It gets colder and Phil senses a man in the room, he comes in to get a drink and flirts with
the cook,  there’s a dog as well a lurcher/cross. Phil has a bad headache, two women are
present very busy in the kitchen, also apprentice boys. The man should not be here, he
doesn’t belong. One of the women is having an affair with a man of some standing in the
castle. A soldier has been seen here, he looks after 40/50 other soldiers.
He wears metal head gear with a piece over his nose and a red top with possibly chain
link.
One of the buxom cooks is dancing and having a sing song, name of Mary, she lifts her
skirts up above her knees. She clips the young boy round the ear, he is stroppy and has
been told to fetch what’s needed for the kitchen from the under croft.

Return to the Chapel.

Phil asks us to remain calm with no shouting or screaming on the way to the chapel
everyone is seated. Phil can see someone standing amongst the team, a monk wearing a
grey habit with rope belt. Two groans are heard, low growling. He tells us the ape was
made to perform in the chapel and responded to whistles. It was beaten if it did not
perform. The ape killed its owner by ripping his throat open. Phil feels there is a monk
here and he is not happy with us. Helen calls out, nothing.
Team A join us, Brother Francis, not resident here just visits now and then. Phil can see
the ape again, Helen talks to him but no responses.

Helen’s Team.

Chapel.

Sharie immediately picks up on the drunk monk, he walks over to the window, leans out
too far, falls out of it, walks all the way through the castle and repeats his actions over
and over again. No harm in him at all. Possibly a residual energy as he did not interact
with us at all.
Jeannette calls out to spirit, someone is in the doorway, a few people can see him. A
cough is heard, but on observing the camcorder footage it is revealed a human energy
caused it …despite the denials!!
It is getting very cold, 1654 is an era given and the name of Mary, an energy is here and
tells Jeannette she is dressed funny! They are just observing. A couple of lurcher cross x
wolfhounds are here and felt by Sharie and Jeannette. All is quiet.

Kitchen

Nothing at all apart from a bat.

Princess Nest tower.

Sharie picks up on a woman in a white gown, Nesta. She feels full of sorrow and
distressed an overpowering grief, feels suicidal. We hear a noise, almost like a person
grumbling.
All quiet

Portcullis and murder holes.

An 18 year old boy hung because he stole a loaf of bread. Sharie hates this area but no
given reason as to why. Jeannette feels someone went over the top and fell to their
death. One of the guests feels as if her ankle has something heavy tied around it.
All quiet

Banqueting hall.

Sharie picks up on a young energy, but having trouble coming through, whilst she is
trying to connect Jeannette calls out and asks for any spirit from the castle to come and
talk or any relative of the people present in the hall. Jan’s lovely cat makes itself known to
us. The name Oscar comes in from Sharie, and as no one can take it Jeannette asks spirit
to give us more information. She is told the name is related to the person who likes
marmite, spreads it on like jam and also Sharie says it is related to an anniversary  in
January, this is taken by one of the guests, and then he remembers he was with a friends
dog whilst it was put to sleep, the dogs name …Oscar. So the dog’s way of coming back
to say thank you.

Sharie now has her link, it is a young woman 1600’s she was put into something and
crushed to death. She was a midwife but the baby dies and she gets the blame. They
accused her of being a witch; her ribs were broken and punctured her lungs through the
crushing. Her name Bethan Carewen aged 25. She never confessed to being a witch. The
emf goes off for no apparent reason.

All is quiet and we go to join the other team in the chapel.

Evening is closed down, a quiet night, not much evidence for any of us but the unusual
smells that many had during the night was certainly enough to make you wonder what
was happening.

Our aim is to try and make you think a bit more if there is something other than this life.
If on an investigation just one person walks away thinking….
“There is more to this than I thought”. . . We believe we have done our job.

We do not and will not make up any kind of evidence; if spirit wants to interact they will if
they do not, they will not.

LOOK FOR WHITE OR COLOURED BALL /ODD SHAPE LIGHT ANOMALIES. THEY ARE CLAIMED TO BE
POSSIBLE ORBS OR SPIRIT ENERGY. THERE IS NO SCIENTIFIC PROOF AVAILABLE TO LAY CLAIM TO
THIS SO WE LET YOU DECIDE.
