| OYSTERMOUTH CASTLE … CHAPEL AREA . Once more we are asked to investigate an area of this amazing place. Never have we been in a castle that has felt so welcoming, we know there are some darker sides to be found as the excavation and rebuilding work continues, but we all feel that providing the castle is not invaded by people on ghost /witch hunts then the spirits here will respect us, as we respect them. Our work is done with utmost respect for physical and spirit alike and we all feel that for this building it is the only way to go forward. Slowly but surely……. On a very wet cold night we met with Roger to explore the Chapel area of the castle. We are immediately drawn to what may have been either a confessional or just a private seating area to the right side of the alter. It feels we are being watched. It is felt the area in the archway should have been rounder, and would have been sumptuously decorated, with gilding, paintings and rich reds and drapes. Angelic pictures are being seen along with knights. Some people see the Angels as traditional depicted angels, with trumpets ad golden hair and wings edged in gold. Jeannette can see an angel picture in her mind but finds it difficult to explain it, she is useless at drawing and in the end holds her head to one side and raises just one arm out to the side and says the arm is a wing. As if the Angel has only one wing and has to have its head tilted to one side, also she can see shields painted on the walls. (later Roger explains the very unusual paintings found, and Jeannette is chuffed to pieces to find out her ‘odd’ Angel was correct). It is felt the chapel was not used for very long once it had been completed. Commissioned by a female . . . Her baby! The woman has been seen several times by various people. Feels as if the ‘tower’ or ‘private’ area should have been joined to the tower further down. The windows would have been magnificent, not only stained glass but the colours would have been out of this world. Mowbray linked with the castle. Crossing to the left hand side the Medium feels lonely, and sorrowful. It is as if she has lost someone very close to her. The female spirit is married but although a loving marriage there is no passion. Areas are not feeling correct, it is felt there should have been a wooden staircase opposite the top of the stairs currently in use. Where a display area is there should be an alter further back under the main window with a shrine and an effigy of a knight/king. Steps would be leading up to the alter. And someone has been seen standing in the window areas. Monks are seen walking down the aisles and the floor is seen as one huge wooden cross shape. Downstairs area of chapel. Glass divination. Jeannette, Pat, Julie, Jan, Caroline. Jan is scripting and Caroline is filming. Julie calls out after enhancing the protection around the group. A female energy. Aleonora. Suddenly the doors slide open, now these doors can only open if you hit a large button on the inside or someone approaches from the outside, so we look to see who is coming over, but the doors just slide closed again, no one was near the button on the inside. We resume where we were standing to see if the doors open again, they reopen and shut and open and the lights that operate it are flickering on and off and changing sequence all the time. We test to see if the infra red lights on our cameras are interfering with the mechanics of the door system but this does not seem to make any difference. The doors shut and we all feel a male energy in the room just watching. We are told we are all safe so we continue to ask questions. The male energy is before Aleonora’s time, a young man and he is standing behind Caroline. An energy is preventing other spirits coming to talk, a male energy feared by many. Aleonora says she used to work with herbs secretly. Her husband knew but was happy for her to put her gift to good use. The men come to join us, they test the doors out after hearing what had happened but no obvious reason was found for these new doors to act the way they did. Roger, Peter and Jason try the glass but although the energy builds up nothing happens. We are all cold and wet and it is decided to close for the night. Roger takes us back over the areas and discloses the history of the chapel. It gives us all a wonderful feeling when we have been correct or along the lines in our findings. To be able to confirm what may be correct in not well known history, or to give others a starting point in their quest for historical findings, is one reason why we do this work. We will be returning to the castle as new areas are uncovered. We all thank Roger and the friends of the castle and owners for allowing us exclusive access to help uncover the history and haunting of Oystermouth castle. |
